Basically sciatica is not a condition it is a symptom of a condition itself. The most common symptom of a condition is the continuous pain running down the back of the leg. It is merely a symptom so it requires a properly diagnose by health care professional and after that treatment for that particular condition is started. It involves weakness, numbness, tingling in the leg and pain in the leg. It is a serious disease which is related with a nervous system.
In this condition there may be weakness of knee bending or foot movement, there may be difficulty bending the foot inward or down. There may be abnormal reflexes with absent or weak ankle jerk reflex.
Some of the important symptoms of sciatica are pain down the legs that at times travel down below the knee and may involve the foot. In the lower leg muscles there may be numbness and weakness. Sciatica gives the feeling of bad leg cramp which lasts for weeks.
The problem of sciatica may be caused due to pressure on the sciatica nerve from a herniated disc. Some of the usual causes of sciatica are direct trauma, prolonged external pressure on the nerve and also due to the pressure on the nerve by nearby body structures.

1. Combination of the juice of potatoes and celery leaves is very effective in treating the problem of sciatica. You can also add carrots and the beetroots to this combination. It will enhance the taste and strength of the mixture.
2. Take about 50 mg of mustard oil in a small beaker. Take 3-4 pieces of garlic cloves and chopped it. Mix this chopped garlic into the oil and heat it till the color of the garlic turns to semi red. With bearable hotness massage this oil around the buttocks or the place where you are suffering from pain. It is an effective home remedy as it will help to reduce the sciatica pain.
3. You can also powder a nutmeg coarsely. Fire this powder in gingely oil till all the particles of it become brown. Then apply this oil on the affected area. It acts as a good pain reliever and it is beneficial as well as effective when applied on the affected part regularly.
4. Exercises are also recommended to reduce the pain due to sciatica.
