SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Dry Mouth is a condition that develops when the salivary glands in your mouth are not able to function properly, and hence they are not able to produce enough saliva to keep your mouth wet. This could probably be because of some strong medication that you were taking for a long time, or it could even be because of excessive drinking of alcohol, smoking, or consumption of tobacco. Sometimes when a person is upset, or in a state of nervousness or stress, then also the person can experience the condition of dry mouth. If the problem persists for a long time, the person suffering from it may start to have difficulties in chewing, swallowing, tasting, and even speaking. If neglected, more related serious diseases can start to develop. Hence, it is best to cure dry mouth as soon as it is detected.

While there are many medicines available in the market that you can consume to cure dry mouth, there are also some simple home tips and tricks that you can try out for added relief and cure. Of course, the idea behind these home remedies is to try and ensure that enough moisture is there in your mouth at all times, and that the salivary glands start to develop saliva again normally. For that, the first and foremost thing to do is to drink as much water as possible. Having water keeps the mouth moist at all times, and half your problems get sorted even before you know it.

Next, it is important to have a lot of semi solid and comforting foods. For instance, try eating soft fruits and yoghurt. You could also chew carrot, which helps to get rid of the problem of dry mouth. Celery can also be chewed frequently for relief.

Good oral health is of utmost importance. Have regular checkups with your dentist and ensure that no kind of decay in your tooth is causing the condition of dry mouth. The dentist will also help you identify if there is a problem with the toothpaste that you are using, and will suggest which one you can use instead. On your own, you should be careful at all times, and should be in the habit of brushing your teeth twice daily. Use mouth washers after every meal to cleanse your mouth, and do not chew much of tobacco.

There are some herbs which you could probably use to get rid of dry mouth. One of them is chamomile, which is commonly available these days in the form of Chamomile tea. You could drink this tea often. Then there is also an herb by the name of Echinacea, which is good for producing saliva, and even though you get a temporary feeling of numbness with this herb in your mouth, it is basically harmless, and very useful.

Red peppers should be consumed a little more if you are suffering from dry mouth, as they have an element called capsaicin in them, which stimulates the production of saliva in the mouth.
